The FAST Research Group is a computational and experimental thermal hydraulics group focused on enabling the development of advanced energy systems (nuclear fission & fusion energy systems) and isotope production. Our research is predominately focused on advanced nuclear reactor technology, fusion enabling technology, and medical isotopes that involve common and exotic coolants.
Our group develops and applies high fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and reduced-order design tools using state-of-the-art methods. The group operates the Modular Separate Effects Testing Facility (MSETF) flow loops for experimental investigations of fundamental thermal fluid phenomena that support industrial and federal energy applications. Our current experimental activities involve understanding underlying behavior of heat transfer enhancements, generating design data of heat exchanger and pumps, and creating validation data for high fidelity CFD methods.Â
